What's on this term?
Disrupt the Floor
Get into hip hop! Our experienced dance teacher will help you master dance basics as well as the latest moves and techniques! Classes are an hour long so you’re sure to get fit at the same time.
THE LOW DOWN:
- When: Mondays 3.45pm – 4.45pm (from 2 August – 13 September)
- Where: Tauhara College dance studio
- Cost: $15
Christmas on the River
Learn all about trout fishing with one of Taupo’s most respected and experienced trout guides, Andrew Christmas. This seven week course will teach you everything there is to know about trout fishing so you can catch a biggie!
THE LOW DOWN:
- When: Mondays 3.45pm – 6.00pm (from 2 August – 13 September)
- Where: Programme leaves from Youthtown at 3.45pm (transport provided)
- Cost: $50 (includes license, transport, fishing gear, expert tuition)
Taupo’s Young Master Baker
Two teams (one sweet, one savoury) will go head-to-head in the tastiest bake-off Taupo’s ever seen! Led by Katy Brown, head chef of The Brantry Restaurant, your creations will be judges by a panel of expert judges.
No baking experience needed and you don’t need to form your own team to sign-up!
THE LOW DOWN:
- When: Mondays (from 2 August – 13 September) or Thursdays (5 August – 16 September)
- Where: Youthtown Taupo building
- Cost: $75 (includes all ingredients, tuition and transport)
Taupo’s Young Master Chef
Two teams, four fantastic recipes, expert tuition and expert judges! Over seven weeks, Louisa Redwood, head chef of Ploughman’s Restaurant, will guide you through perfecting your dished before letting you loose in front of a panel of expert tasters.
No cooking experience needed and you don’t need to form your own team to sign-up!
THE LOW DOWN:
- When: Tuesdays (from 3 August – 14 September) or Wednesdays (4 August – 15 September)
- Where: Youthtown Taupo building
- Cost: $75 (includes all ingredients, tuition and transport)
ZumbAtomic
You’ve heard about it, seen it on TV and thought about giving it a go… Well now’s your chance!
Developed from the original Zumba, ZumbAtomic is the same dance-based fitness programme, with a focus on what’s great for young people! Get fit and have fun at the same time!

- When: Tuesdays 3.45pm – 4.30pm (from 3 August – 21 September)
- Where: Taupo Events Centre, AC Baths Ave

Spin + Core
Have fun, challenge your body and improve your overall fitness!
SPIN – the ultimate way to get fit! Jump on a bike and spin to some wicked beats!
CORE – tone, strengthen and tighten your stomach and lower back areas by performing new-and-improved abdominal exercises.

My Tunes
Create some groovy techno beats, play with wicked sounds and make stunning music videos which you can stick on YouTube and impress your mates with!

Devised Theatre Workshop
Are you an aspiring actor or actress? Do you write poetry, sing or play a musical instrument? If so, the Youthtown Devised Theatre Workshop could be the next step to unlocking your talent…

Discover Mountain Biking
We have brand new bikes, a brand new trailer and a fantastic team of mountain biking instructors to teach you the tips and tricks of mountain biking like a pro! No experience necessary!
THE LOW DOWN:
- When: Wednesdays 3.45pm - 5.45pm (from 4 August - 15 September)
- Where: A range of local tracks including Craters of the Moon, Spa Park and Huka Falls (transport provided)
- Cost: $40 (includes all transport, tuition and a day trip to Rotorua)
- Please note you will need to provide your own bike helmet
Funk Art
Looking for original ideas to create jaw dropping artwork? Under the skilled eye of artist Jo Melville, you will explore new and exciting methods of expressive art.

ROM - Range of Movement
ROM is a fun, new-aged, low impact fitness and stretching class based on Eastern philosophies and gymnastics. This seven week programme is aimed at all levels of fitness, ability and flexibility.

Aqua Mayhem
Have fun in the water, improve your swimming skill and get active!

The Grind
The Grind is the ultimate hang out for Upper Hutt teens.
After a successful run in 2007, The Grind is back and better than ever for 2010! Kick back and listen to the awesome local tunes of DJs, college bands, perfomance groups and solo artists while enjoying a coffee or hot chocolate at the same time!

Disrupt the Floor
Keen to master the art of hip hop?
Run as part of Youthtown’s Urban Unity programme, Disrupt the Floor offers young people the chance to watch and learn from some of the country’s best hip hop dancers. Classes cover all areas of hip hop dance – from krumping and break dancing right through to popping and locking.

Seasoned hip hop instructor Odessa To’o instructs in Upper Hutt. She teaches participants that “hip hop is not a negative style of dance; it’s an awesome way to release your emotions in a positive way”.

Bec's Cakes and Bakes
Let chef Rebecca Huton-Orme show you how to bake like a pro over a delicious seven weeks! Create amazing home-made sweets, enjoy tasty savouries and satisfy your taste buds.
No baking experience is needed, just a hunger to learn something new and enjoyable. All ingredients and equipment are provided AND everything you bake is yours to keep (to take home and eat of course)!
