Short Film Challenge
Are you New Zealand’s next Peter Jackson or up-and-coming Anna Paquin? If so, the Short Film Challenge could be your stepping stone to stardom!
Launched in March each year, the Short Film Challenge gives budding film makers, actors and actresses their chance to shine on the silver screen. From scriptwriting and producing to acting, directing and editing, it’s a great chance to dabble in the film industry!
To help ensure your film or performance is Oscar-worthy, optional film workshops are run at Youthtown centres around the country every Saturday for the 10 weeks leading up to judging day. The winning films (judged and decided upon by a panel of film industry pros) are then screened at the Academy Cinema in Auckland.

Squads leave their mark by organising cool smoke, alcohol and drug-free events out of their local Youthtown centres. Belonging to an Urban Unity Squad is not only a tonne of fun, it’s a great way to unleash your inner-leader and get real event management experience.
But don’t get us wrong! Being part of an Urban Unity Squad is not all work! Amongst running events and sharpening your social skills there is plenty of time for fun.
So go on! Step up, get involved and take the lead.
Outdoor days
When the sun is shining, Urban Unity loves hitting the outdoors. As with all Urban Unity activities, outdoor days are all about fun, adventure and trying something new! With kayaking, sailing, ropes courses, mountain biking, surfing and blo-karting on offer, you’ll be stuck for choice!
Please note cost is dependent on activities.
Workshops
To make sure your brain keeps ticking, workshops are held by Urban Unity at certain points throughout the year addressing a whole range of topics. From food myths to exercise advice, screen printing to graff art, there is something for everyone!
